Learning concept of the episode: The number seven can be made in a variety of different ways.
Story Summary
A big Flocker party is in progress, and the only way to gain admittance is to be part of a group of seven. As Bing and Bong see Flockers make groups of seven in different ways, they begin to see the pattern, and figure out they too can join the party.
Focus Early Learning Goal
Mathematical Development 8: Begin to relate addition to combining two groups of objects and subtraction to ‘taking away’.

Collecting Sevens
Aim
For the children to understand how many is seven and be able to add and take away to make the number seven
Resources
- Bowls or containers
- Labels
- Coloured pens
Guidelines
- Write the number 7 on the labels and stick them to the bowls.
- Sit the children down and discuss the number seven with them.
- Ask various children to go and collect 7 items in their bowl.
- Count the objects as they come back out loudly with the children.
- If the children bring the incorrect amount ask the children how many items they need to add or take away to make seven..
- Collect the wrong amount yourself and ask the children the same question.
- Leave the bowls out for the children to use during the day.
