Give Me Five
Episode 14 Planet: Stuff
Learning concept of the episode: The number five can be made in a variety of different ways.
Story Summary
On the Tiny Planet of Stuff, Bing and Bong find that lots of things come in fives; flowers, trees – even Flockers. As Bing and Bong play with them, five baby Flockers go through their antics on the playground and when they split into different combinations, they show different ways to make the number five.

Aim
To have a day where everything is related to the number five. This will re-enforce the number five with the children in a fun way
Resources
- Lots of different objects in groups of five
- Table activities set out each for five children
- Counters
- Sorting items
- Collage materials
- Sticky dots
- Large pre-cut numbers 1-5
Guidelines
- Tell the children they are going to have a number five day. Try to relate every activity to the number five.
- Have five children sitting at each table.
- At snack time, have 5 cups of each colour, ask the children to take 5 pieces of fruit etc.
- Let the children make dominoes using collage materials and sticky dots, but only numbers up to 5!
- Sing songs which include the number 5 e.g. Five little speckled frogs.
- Focus on the number five and making the number five throughout the day.

Health & Safety
Ensure that the items the children can choose for themselves for sorting etc. are suitable for their age group and ability.
Provide scissors that cut well but are not sharp on the end.
Provide glue that is non toxic.
