Found Sounds Orchestra
Episode 58 Planet of Sound
Learning concept of the episode: Many natural sounds have distinctive rhythms, tones etc. These sounds (e.g. water dripping, wolves howling and wind through leaves) have inspired some musicians to create beautiful music and the natural sounds can be combined to make music too.
Story Summary
Bong accidentally drops and breaks a record that was supposed to be used for a concert on the Tiny Planet of Sound. Bing then suggests that Bing, Bong, the locals and the Flockers play hide and seek instead. As Bing looks for and gathers everyone. Different sounds produced by the different parts of nature (such as crunching leaves and a hollow log) are heard. These items are collected and eventually used as instruments once everyone is found and they return to the concert hall. This new band replaces the broken record and inspires everyone to dance.
Focus Early Learning Goal
Creative Development 2: Recognise and explore how sounds can be changed, sing simple songs from memory, recognise repeated sounds and patterns and match movements to music.

Resources
- A cardboard box containing everyday objects such as some pieces of Lego, clock, knife and fork, cup and saucer, scissors, paper, a rattle and a screen
Guidelines
- Set up the area so the children can be seated in front of you. When they have settled down explain that you are going to show them a selection of objects and make a sound with each of them.
- Take out one object and make a sound with it. Show the children how to make the sound and then let one or two have a turn. Repeat with each of the objects leaving one as a surprise for later.
- When the children have heard all the sounds, place the objects back in the box and place the box behind the screen away from view.
- Then take an object and make a sound with it.
- Ask the children to guess which object is making the sound.
- When they have guessed all the objects use the surprise object and see if they can guess what it is from the sound that it makes.
