Title Design, make and test a kite
Aim
To design and make a kite allowing the children to decide how to assemble the kite and how to fly it
Resources
You will need for each kite
- 1 sheet of copier paper
- Sewing thread
You will need for each group
- Stapler
- Hole punch
Guidelines
- Have children first decorate the paper on both sides with markers or crayons, then
- Fold the sheet of paper in half, width ways. Mark 2 points ‘A’ and ‘B’ on the folded edge of the paper. Point ‘A’ should be 5 centimetres from the top, and point and point ‘B’ 5 centimetres from the bottom. Fold the top corners of the page to point ‘A’ and staple them in place. Do not crease the paper. Just bend it back. Punch a hole at point ‘B’ and attach your flying thread. That’s all!!

Never fly a kite:
- Near electric lines or poles
- With metal parts or lines which will attract electricity
- Using fishing line or wire to fly a kite

If your kite gets caught up in a tree or pole it is best to leave it alone! Climbing high places can be very dangerous.
